Leon meets the fashion blogger: Mademoiselle Robot

Our contributor Leon Bailey-Green, meets the fashion blogger who could be your very own online fashion stylist…

Mademoiselle Robot, fashion journalist turned blogger, has her own styling service helping women from London to Paris sort their wardrobes.

Tell us a bit about how you started blogging

Two years ago, after I had my little girl, I wanted to get back into writing regularly (I used to be a journalist/editor). I started MademoiselleRobot.com to keep my brain in shape, basically… And then it just grew and grew till it became my main activity.

Have you made new friends via blogging?

I have met a couple of people through blogging who have become good friends in real life. I speak to a lot of people online everyday, but I have never met them, and I don’t think I ever will. I think it is pretty much like everyday life, out of the many people you meet, you only connect with a few.

Which fashion blog are you hooked on at the moment?

I am loving July Stars, because she really has a beautiful way to see fashion and a great writing style. I also like Style Bubble as I have a huge respect for the way Susie has been handling her career.

You spent some time at fashion weeks, what trends can we expect in 2010?

The Rock Chick look is definitely here to stay, but it is softened by more feminine fabrics, colours and shapes. There were lots of pastel colours, muted tones and an awful lot of bodycon dresses still. I long for a bit more femininity.

What percentage of your fashion and beauty purchases are online?

I’d say I get about 75% of my clothes online, mostly for convenience reasons (try shopping with a toddler in tow). Also, I buy a lot of vintage clothing, which means I need to be able to spread my research outside of London to find gems. As for beauty, I don’t really buy anything online. So 0%! I like the real life experience of going to the beauty counter of my favourite shop and try new products, get advice etc.

What three items from Oli.co.uk are you coveting this month and why?

KG Suede Lace Up Boot

KG shoe

I just love a “pretty ugly” shoe. There is something about them that makes an outfit. These lace up boots from KG would be perfect to give a little egde to cute dresses or smart trousers.

Selected Femme Ruffle Petal Top

I think this top is an interesting take on the big shoulder trend, and slightly more feminine too. I like the colour as it is also spot on for Spring Summer, which means it is almost a “basic”!

Knitted Heart Dress

I am a bit of a sucker for heart print everything, so I don’t think I need an explanation for this one…

Which brand would you most like to see on Oli.co.uk and why?

I would like to see Jeffrey Campbell on Oli, because I just love his shoes… I would also like to see a bit of Laura Mercier cosmetics, as it is my favourite beauty brand, and it’s only available on very few sites.
