We’d go to the ends of the earth for fashion (dramatic but true!) and we’re always out on the hunt for the latest style and trend gossip. So, when Paris Fashion Week came a-calling, we were all too happy to get involved. Even though these shows were for menswear, it’s a great place to style-spot and get a feel for womens fashion trends for next season.

Our guest blogger, Michael Ford from the cult fashion blog Anastasia and Duck went along to the shows and parties and came back laden with stories, gossip and trend forecasts. Here’s what he had to say…

A new trend seems to be emerging, spear-headed by the style queen and all-round uber-WAG Victoria Beckham. It’s sexy, it’s sophisticated, it’s the LRD or Little Red Dress, for those not yet fluent in fashion jargon. Our Closet range already channels Victoria’s sleek style, and we’re thinking of introducing this hot shade into the range – but we want to know what you think of it!

One of our favourite style icons, Cheryl Cole is 27 today. We’ve featured Miss Tweedy-to-be in so many of our fashion editorials that we only thought it was right to take the time to say “happy birthday, Chezza”! She’s come a long, looooong way in the style stakes since those early days of Girls Aloud:

We know you love a bit of fashion insider info, so we thought we’d give you a sneak peek into one of our recent photo shoots for French Connection. The lovely Helen from the Oli.co.uk Buying team went along to get all the latest style gossip and a few cheeky behind the scenes pics for us… Here’s what she had to say:

It’s always great being on shoots – seeing how everything comes together, from hair and makeup right through to styling and art direction.

The end product looks glam but it’s very hard work and takes a lot of people to produce the pics you see on Oli.co.uk. Even though it takes a lot to get it right, it’s really fun being on photo shoots and making sure we get the right kind of feeling and styling coming through in the end shots.

Our fabulous resident fashion blogger, The Very Simon G, has been out and about in London, rubbing shoulders with the stars of the style world. He recently caught up with hot designer Olivia Rubin. Here’s what happened…

Five Minutes of fashion with Olivia Rubin

Who doesn’t like a bit of designer clothing? I don’t think I hear anybody saying ‘no’. But who isn’t always that impressed with the designer prices? A lot of agreeing me thinks! Well if that’s the case then you simply MUST click onto the Oli Fusion Designer section. One word: WOW. And do you know who I’ve got my eye on for this season’s must-have dresses… our lovely, and uber-talented, Olivia Rubin!

A quick introduction to Olivia – she graduated from the mighty Central Saint Martins College in 2006 with a BA in Fashion Print (hence her AMAZING colourful designs). In the years previous and since she’s worked with the likes of Jacques Azagury, Alexander McQueen, John Galliano and Jade Jagger. One of Britain’s busiest young designers, Olivia now shows her collections at London Fashion Week, always receiving praise from the fashion bigwigs. That’s why we’re so please to have her on board!

I caught up with the lovely lady to ask just a few questions, here’s what she had to say…

Simon: All the dresses in your collection for Oli are super-structured, as are your catwalk pieces. Is it paramount for you to really emphasize a woman’s shape?

Olivia: I like to emphasis the curves of the female form in the silhouettes and prints, in an edgy way rather creating an overtly sexy look.

Simon: What are you main influences? Looking at your collections I would say architecture (what with your signature brick print!)?

Olivia: All things creative, especially modern art. At the moment I’m looking at sculptors such as Henry Moore, Alexander Calder and Dali. The brick print derived from my first ever collection inspired by builders/construction workers entitled ‘Big Tool for You!’.

Simon: What would you say are the essential summer must haves for any wardrobe?

Olivia: Printed dresses!

Simon: What made you decide to collaborate with Oli? Have you always thought of working with a high street brand?

Olivia: I had previously collaborated with others on a diffusion range which was such a success – it reached a new customer that couldn’t necessarily afford to buy into my mainline ranges. So when Oli approached me I was eager to get involved… I’m looking forward to seeing my next AW10 Oli collection which features knitwear – something I’ve never done before.

Simon: What will YOU be wearing this summer?

Olivia: My ‘Matisse’ nude, draped dress to my best friend’s wedding, printed tops, lace, and my new Oli Rubi t-shirts (especially the brick one).

Simon: Who would you most love to see in one of your Oli dresses?

Olivia: We recently sent Emma Bunton one of the dresses that she picked… the asymmetric tropical print. She’ll look fabulous in it. I’d love to see other celebs that mix up high street and designer pieces like Sophie Ellis Bextor and Jameela Jamil.

It’s easy to see Olivia’s enthusiasm to make YOU girls look fabulous this summer. Get clicking girls. You HAVE to check out the Olivia Rubin maxi dresses, pure gorgeousness and starting from only £80!
